Proofreading is the final check done to a document. A proofreader looks for any mistakes that might appear within the text, ensuring that it is free from errors and that it is consistent throughout.

Copyediting involves all the standard checks carried out when proofreading, but also focuses on to the structure and wording of a piece of writing to ensure that the content is clear and reads well for its intended purpose.

Indexes are often the first point of reference for a reader. An index is a list of entries, comprised of relevant terms, concepts and names. They represent the most efficient route for finding specific information in a nonfiction book.
